hi everyone,
i'm restoring a chambers model a stove and am having a hard time figuring out the broiler. on the back left corner it has a spring attached to the hook that lifts up the broiler. this once was connected somewhere on the stove. i assume to give it some tension for when the broiler is lifted. does anyonve have any ideas where this spring connects to?
thanks.

Hi Kenmore (hmmmm ... interesting name!!),
I have a unit out of the stove. If you send me your e-mail address, I can snap some pictures of mine.

Hey Gang,
I wasn't able to help Sergio. Turns out that my post-Model-B broiler box is different than his Model A. Is there anyone out there with Model A experience? Sergio sure could use a hand!
Thanks.

hi tura,
thanks for the post and your help.
being a newbie, i'm wondering if there's a way to post pictures on the board. i think it'd be a great resource for restorers. i have several pictures that may be of interest to others.
still looking for help on the model a if anyone can help.
thanks.

It occurred to me that if you can't fix your problem, you could always consider replacing your entire broiler box (if they interchange, that is.) That's what I did with my Model B - the box was rusted thru in one spot, so I swapped it out. The Model BZ and forward came with the "burner shield", which was a nice enhancement to the stove as it distributed the heat across the griddle better and caused less warping and burning of food. Although I initially wanted to keep my Model B entirely a Model B, I am glad now that I went to the improved burner design.
Just something to think about...

well, my box is in pretty great condition. the only thing wrong that i can figure is the broken spring connection. also, the model a has a different opening mechanism thatn the later models as it's opened by lifting the handle. the b and c open by turning the handle, as far as i can tell from the manuals that i have for them.
having said that, let me know if you see a good candidate floating around...

Do you have any pictures of your Model A? I'd love to see them. I've never seen one in person. If you have pics, please e-mail to me. Thx.

Sergio, if you were open to buying another Model A for parts, there's one on e-bay right now. It's in Kansas. Freight would probably cost you $300 - $400 (using eric's shipping service). If the stove were cheap enough, it might make it worth it. Here's the e-bay link:
